Last on my list...a Handsome Prince

One Monday night, for family home evening, we talked about temple marriage. In the course of our lesson we showed the kids our wedding picture in front of the Timpanogous Temple. Because our kids are so far apart in age (12 yrs old and 3 years old), we always have to do two age appropriate versions of the lesson. When we got to Drew's version, we explained to her that it was important to be worthy to go to the temple. We listed some of the things she would need to do such as: read the scriptures, go to church and be obedient. As we concluded the lesson, we walked out to our balcony and showed the kids the Timpanougous Temple, which we can see nicely lit at night time.

It is a beautiful sight. We reviewed the lesson with both children to be sure they captured the essence of the lesson.
Drew, as bright as she is, said "Mommy, I want to get married in the temple".

This made me feel like our effort to guide our children to take the right path was worth while. I was already seeing the results.

As my thought concluded, she said, "I want to get married in the temple today".

I said, "Well, you have to be 25 years old (aiming high) and you have to find your handsome prince first."

After a long struggle with trying to clarify things, she finally gave up.

The next day, she said "mommy, I'm 26 now"

I had a pretty good idea why she was saying that, but I tried to pretend I didn't know what she was talking about. Then she, once again, insisted in going to the temple to get married. I tried to be creative and kept trying to explain to an almost 3 year old little girl that she wasn't 26 and that she still needed to find someone to marry (her handsome prince). I kept emphasizing that she was 3. Well, after some struggle, I gave up! Long story short, we ended up having to take her to the temple grounds and attempt to explain again. She still to this day will say that she's 26. For her birthday, she asked if her handsome prince was going to dance with her!

Well, they say it's never too early to teach your children...but this one sure backfired!
Looking back, I think we did pretty well at putting it at her level and of course I don't regret it at all. Hopefully, she will remember this lesson as much as we will and one day find her handsome prince.
